Though most people now know it as the name of a website that ridicules "chav" cars (and that becoming increasingly inactive, as the chav fashion has long since passed on), back in the day Barry Boys was the Cambridgeshire name for proto-Chavs. I can still remember us finding the original Barryboys site on the CRC Library computers, but it was a term people outside of Cambridgeshire would probably not have ever thought of searching for, at the time. Also, this one was based on a story in the local paper, where a guy with some growth disorder that meant he was really short and thin (though still looked like an adult otherwise, just a small one) had his petrol pump cut off, because he looked too young to be using it. This in spite of the fact he had just driven up to it in a car, alone... which would be far more alarming if he really was 11, or whatever age they thought he was. |
