Once again, the title screen took more effort and time to make than the game did! This game is set in Insanity Please, my stupid old webcomic which is a crossover of Final Fantasy 6 and 7. The Returners are anarchists, fighting against the world-spanning Shinra empire. This is based on the Battle of Mideel storyline, which is currently (March 2026) running in the comic. Basically you have to fly around hunting for Shinra stealth bombers, and shoot them down. Honestly it's more annoying than anything. ********************************************************** * TO RUN * * Right click, and go into "properties", then into * * "Compatibility" and check the box to run it in * * "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" mode. You can also * * right-click on the game and select "Run as * * Administrator" to make extra-sure it will run. * ********************************************************** Controls: Shift - Accelerate Ctrl - Shoot Arrows - Movement (up for down, as in flight sims) Tips: -Fly through the "clouds" to dissipate them. If only so you'll have a rudimentary guide to places you haven't been yet. -The enemies are set to "attack from behind" to simulate "dogfighting". This means you almost always hear them before you see them. Maybe it's Darkbasic's old trick of randomly making certain objects invisible (well, they are stealth bombers!), and the enemies only become visible once they start attacking. Either way, they're usually flying in formations of three. Known bugs: -It was made in an engine that was intended for kids to play about with. from 2002... and thus isn't very good. -The level is actually a "space" level, with "asteroids". I wanted to replace the skybox with a daytime sky and land or ocean beneath, but for some reason, replacing those textures does nothing, so I just gave it dark blue "distance fog", and set it to a far distance. -Because the engine is from the XP era, it might choke on modern machines. I can actually run it fine on a Win 10 b0x, as long as a certain DLL file is present (included). Also, run it in "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" compatibility mode.
