FIGSHIT PICKS - October 2012

One of my jobs was making sure that big 10l containers of distilled water were available in the labs. They were refilled from the distilled water machine, which (very) slowly filled it's own 25l tank, forcing tap water through extremely fine filters. As you can imagine, these filters needed replacing after so much water had gone through, and were not cheap. So, you know, we wouldn't want to be wasting that water, would we?

As I looked after "four" (well, three and two halves) labs at once, I wasn't everywhere at once, so sometimes people would "help" me by doing these things for me. One morning I strolled in to find some of that "help"...

Yes, some thick piece of shit's opened the tap to refill one of the containers, then just WALKED THE FUCK AWAY AND FORGOT ABOUT IT. After filling the container, it's pissed the remaining 15l all over the floor. Then spent all night trying to refill that container, through the expensive filters, and chucked that right onto the floor, too.

Oh, yeah, thanks for piling those up further back, against the trolley, so I'd have enough room to open the autoclave door. You thick cunts. As I've said in previous pages, scientists are extremely "monkey see, monkey do". No doubt one of these dixies was put against the wall, and on the floor, where it would not interfere with the autoclave door at all. The rest of the thicks who came along later simply stacked them up on / beside the first one, in a neat line, "because that's where they go, isn't it?". Absolutely no thought at all was given to "hmm, I wonder if this will leave space for the heavy and unwiedly door next to me to be able to open?". Nah, why would they need to think that? That would require observation of surroundings, forming abstract concepts about things that could potentially happen in the future, and basing decisions upon it. You know, that thing apes, gorillas and crows can do? Yet, apparently, scientists at one of Britain's top insitutions of learning and research can't manage it.

This happened pretty often, too. The toilet had toilet roll (why yes, there were often fresh rolls just put on top, not put in the dispenser properly) and these green towels for hand-drying. If you pulled too hard, and were really trying, you could accidentally pull out a few more green towels than you needed. Some thick fucker, doubtless trying to be "cool and hard" was forever pulling so hard they got out a whole handful, which they then bunched up in frustration and... put on top of the toilet paper dispenser. The mind fucking boggles, it really does.

Far worse later happened in these toilets, which I didn't get a photo of, for understandable reasons, but I'm pretty sure it was after 2012, so will have to wait.

Masses of card and plastic tossed into a non-recycling bin, even though the recycling bin was only a few paces away, same old, same old. Still, this is the usual excusable ignorance of somebody too lazy and thick to read simple signage, which is pretty standard for scientists. You know what isn't?

Surely, somewhere in the dim recesses of their minds, they still know there are recycling and non-recycling bins? Well, apparently not, which will be why they've got a bag of recycling, in the clear bags, and non-recycling, in the black bags, and TIED THEM THE FUCK TOGETHER.
