The Northwest Aryan Republic

Note: This page is based heavily on the five books of Harold Covington's increasingly innacurately-named Northwest Trilogy. His books tell of the creation of a country called the Northwest American Republic (NAR), which is essentially the same as the NWAR. The NWAR is simply an alternate-reality version of it, created in an earlier time period and under different international circumstances. The NWAR primarily appears in the story Rocket Redferne, set in 2175, this page assumes that year is the "present".

Introduction The Northwest Aryan Republic is a National Socialist, White ethnostate located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It stretches from Northern California (where it's southern border is against the Hispanic ethnostate of Aztlan) into British Columbia, where it borders the remains of Canada and Alaska (now an independent country). It's eastern border is against what is left of the United States, though the continued existence of that country is largely an academic excercise, having fragmented into a bunch of technical ethnostates and city-states by default. The Southeastern United States is another diplomatically distinct entity called New Egypt, a Black ethnostate. The NWAR is an economic superpower, with increased "might as well" diplomatic recognition only increasing it's prestige. After the 2014 revolution, it enjoyed almost a century as the only nation with any space programme at all. After clearing the earth's orbit of the mass of space junk ejected by China's "Tibet Weapon", during World War 3, the NWAR made rapid strides in manned space technology. By the mid-22nd century, the NWAR had colonies on the Moon, Mars, Ceres and several moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Mars has been terraformed and possesses a breathable, if cold, atmosphere and a huge ocean. NWAR colonists also live in huge airships, drifting around the thick atmosphere of Venus. The NWAR are trying to thin out and cool the atmosphere of that planet, with a view to future terraforming there, too. While still officially hated internationally, many nations grudgingly admit they need NWAR technology to have any hope of leaving the Earth at all. Both the Moon and Mars are now shared between the NWAR, UN space administration (primarily Chinese and Brazilian) and Homonia. The NWAR is the dominant force, both economically and demographically, on both worlds. The UN hopes to set up an independent colony on a different planet or moon and are also constructing an allegedly non-military, open-to-all "way station" between Earth and Mars.

History In the Northwest Quintet, the creation of the Northwest American Republic is not dated, but appears to happen some time after 2024. It happens during the presidency of Chelsea Clinton, who is the daughter of Hillary Clinton, herself an ex-president and the real power behind the throne (at least until she is murdered in some other book, which is not actually part of the quintet). A character in one of the Northwest Novels laments that the White House has "become a time-share between two families", which implies that Hillary Clinton was president during the real-life Obama years, and Jeb Bush was president during the real-life Trump years. The NWAR was created in much the same way as the NAR of the Northwest Novels, just earlier. A bunch of White revolutionaries move to the Pacific Northwest, with a view to breaking it off from the United States by armed struggle. The Pacific Northwest is the Whitest part of the United States, though it is also very liberal. Many of the Whites who have moved there from California and other states shudder to think of being called the dreaded "R word", so justify the move with coded language such as "better schools". Harold Covington, the "Old Man", picked the Pacific Northwest as the site of this revolution not only because it is a heavily White area, but also because, while still in the United States, the people there can buy firearms legally (at least for now). Also, if the revolution was to be started in some Eastern European country, like Poland, the revolutionaries would be facing the entire Polish military. By holding it in only a part of the United States, they hope to only face part of the US Military, which is also tied up fighting various "wars for democracy" (read: oil grabs) in the Middle East. A Middle East which is becoming increasingly unified against Israel, America's close ally. The Pacific Northwest also has sparsely-populated areas which are well suited to assymetric warfare, the idea being that "the generals won't surrender, the accountants will". The cost of keeping the Pacific Northwest in the union will become more than the land is worth, and the US will reliquish control voluntarily. When the Great Revolution of 2014 began, the liberals and conservatives of the United States immediately split over which "side" of the revolution their country should support. The liberals wanted to support the government of the EU, as France is in the EU, and France is sophisticated because it has pavement cafes, so must be good. By contrast, the conservatives wanted to support the rebels, as they beleived the EU to be "unamerican" because it didn't let people have guns or smoke in bars. Both of these ideas of the revolution were childishly oversimplified and just plain wrong, but they were enough to spark violence between various radical groups in the USA, among them the KKK, Alt-Right, Black Lives Matter, By Any Means Necessary (BAMN), La Raza and Antifa. The Northwest Volunteer Army (NVA), initially decided to sit back and watch what happens, but that all changed on October 22nd. Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State (as in real life, not president), used liberal worries about the "Nazi" revolution in Europe to rapidly pass a set of Europe-style gun control and hate speech laws. Among these was the "It Takes A Village" law, which authorises local authorities to seize "endangered" children and put them up for adoption (assisted by the payment of an adoption bond). In practice, this meant taking children from nationalist White families and effectively selling them to non-White or homosexual couples. On October 22nd, It Takes A Village and the FBI attempted to seize the children of the Singer Family in Coeur d'Alene, because the family where White and practiced a racially-aware version of Asatru. The family, and the entire street, resisted by force of arms - though not one of them was a member of the NVA. NVA cells were nearby, however, and quickly swore in the fighters. The local TV station was seized and Harold Covington was able to broadcast a message declaring the establishment of the Northwest Aryan Republic then and there - a feat which earned him a prison cell for the rest of the war. While the revolution in Europe was a quick affair (living under 1984 tends to unite people), the revolution to create the NWAR was a long and very bloody one. The American Police, Military, ATF and FBI all attempted to resist it (and trod on each other's toes constantly while doing so), but the cost of policing every White person in such a large area, and protecting the government and tax-collecting apparatus while doing so, proved incredibly difficult. Eventually a new force, the Federal Anti-Terrorist Police Organisation (FATPO) was created for the specific purpose of keeping the Northwest under control. FATPO was built around a core of transferred Police, Soldiers or Prison Guards, but the bulk of it's membership were newly-recruited and hastily-trained personnell. A controversy erupted when it was discovered a lot of the members were former gang members from the Bloods and Crips of LA, promised good pay and pardons for joining FATPO. Naturally, they rapidly turned in the organisation into a gang in it's own right, demanding protection money from White people and muscling in on the turf of other criminal gangs, White or not, with their badges giving them legitimacy. Alonside the FBI, ATF, Media and Lawyers, every FATPO member was declared an enemy combatant by the NVA. The violence from within and without drove most decent FATPO members to quit, many of the White ones directly defecting to the NVA, and the nonwhite ones simply deserting and leaving the Northwest, declaring it to be not worth saving anyway. The gangsters remained, and their behaviour drove yet more previously non-racist Whites into the arms of the NVA, many deciding that if this is democracy and freedom, why not give the Nazis a try? FATPO's only real success (from it's own point of view, that is) was the ambush of the Olympic Flying column of the NVA, at a place called Ravenhill Ranch, and even then, they only managed that because the column was given away by an informer. It was also able to capture and torture a lot of NVA members, though many heroically held out for 24 hours before spilling what they knew - by which time, thanks to the NVA's complex network of bolt-holes and safe-houses, it was useless. One of the most infamous excesses of FATPO was the treatment of NVA member Cathy Frost. She was captured early in the war, after sustaining a light wound in a gunfight which also killed her high-ranking husband. FATPO were not aware of his death, and subjected her to all manner of "enhanced interview techniques" in order to discover his whereabouts. As Cathy Frost belonged to a group of White heterosexuals who preferred to live amongst people like themselves, it was considered accptable to subject her to absolutely any atrocity and indignity. Not revealing her husband's whereabouts became a point of honour for Cathy, and every other inmate of the prison, who kept her spirits up by signing Martin Luther's hymn "A Mighty Fortess is our God", which later became the NWAR's national anthem. As time went on, other countries began to lodge protests with the USA over these "enhanced interviews". By this time so "enhanced" as to include skinning, amputations, surgery without anasthetics, sexual humiliation, injections of corrosive chemicals and burns. Every European nation lodged formal complaints with the UN, and tried to begin a war crimes investigation. Every nation except the UK, that is, which remained in full support of any and all actions against the NVA, and which was able to veto any UN resolution condemning FATPO's actions. With these protests, however neutered, from other nations, the US Military losing it's grip in the Middle East, and increasingly vocal demands from the pro-Israel AIPAC lobby group for more monetary aid and even direct protection, the USA was finally forced to the table at the Longview Conference of 2018. After tense negotiations over the summer months, the NWAR delegation finally threatened to walk out and return to active operations - and with the ceasefire in place. the NVA was now operating in the open and had almost quadrupled it's membership (to say nothing of having effectively armed and trained them). The US relented and signed the forms, also releasing Cathy Frost as a goodwill gesture. The legal establishment of the republic was so abrupt, the media hardly had time to comment on developments before the NVA delegation stepped outside, and Cathy Frost was invited to raise the Northwest tricolour on the flagpole outside Longview House. Almost immediately the NVA, now officially established as the NDF (Northwest Defence Force), had to battle remaining US forces for control of the city of Portland, which had been seized by the rogue US Marine General Partman, and a hefty FATPO contingent. Complicit local police also hastily deputised the remaining criminal gangs in the city, and awaited developments. The seige couldn't last, and the dubious loyalty of the gangsters and FATPO saw Portland seized and the NWAR fully established. In 2024, just after World War 3 (an event largely irrelevant to the NWAR), an ultra-Christian, pro-slavery faction from the NWAR staged a revolution in the Southeast of the USA, establishing the New Confederacy. This split the USA's forces, and slowed the efforts of the ONR (Office of Northwest Recovery). The New Confederacy, having a large slave population, was easier to keep occupied than the NWAR, though. US Special Forces simply aided slave escapes, then armed and trained them and rebels. in 2030, the United States, Canada and Aztlan (established shortly after the NWAR, as La Raza threatened to adopt the same tactics as the NVA), with Chinese and British assistance, attempted to wrest back control of the NWAR in a mission codenamed Operation Strikeout. By this time, the NWAR had established one of the best intelligence operations in the world, and the "surprise" attack was anything but. A combination of secretly-developed, high-tech weapons (including a method of creating plasma and "carrying" it along a laser beam), computer viruses and even an NWAR infiltrator inside the White House itself (who was later able to assasinate the president, at the cost of her own life) saw the US dealt a humiliating defeat, and the NWAR expanding itself into Canada and northern Aztlan. Chinese, Canadian and Aztlani forces saw the writing on the wall early in the war and deserted their cheesburger-gorging ally. The UK, naturally, remained absolutely loyal to the USA, even demanding fiercer attacks and further attempts to carpet-bomb NWAR cities for the hell of it. Eventually, however, the US surrendered and withdrew it's forces. Many White American soldiers defected in the process. The UK maintained a small salient, from which it extracted all of it's forces in good order in a heroic operation dubbed "The Second Dunkirk". At least, British regime media called it "heroic", the NWAR didn't even bother attacking the salient, so for the British soldiers it was more of a gentle walk in the countryside. The UK taskforce did, after the first defeats, implement a strict policy against "defeatism", an ill-defined offence for which the punishment was death. NWAR analysis of casualties found in it's territory afterwards awarded the UK taskforce with the dubious honour of being the only army in history to deliberately kill more of it's own side than the enemy. A claim hotly contested by the British government, which nonetheless requested the return of all British bodies, and had them thoroughly cremated before releasing them to their families. To this day, any mention of these mass executions in the UK must be preceded by the phrase "the discredited conspiracy theory", otherwise it is classified as hate speech. Only a year after the war, the NWAR launched it's first space mission (to the terror of other nations at this launch of a "ballistic missile"). The first NWAR space missions were unmanned, robotic satellites which were used to clean up the great scattering of space junk, left behind by the use of the Chinese "Tibet Weapon" in World War 3. In just five years, the NWAR's satellites, with broad "wings" of ballistic gel, lasers and magnets were able to make Earth orbit squeaky-clean, and they sent a manned mission up aboard a spacecraft not unlike the 20th century Shuttle. Just three years after that, in 2039, the NWAR launched it's first spacecraft on the Nuclear-Electromagnetic Excitation (NEE) principle. This used a whirling magnetic field in a highly-radioactive pile to excite and superheat injected gas. The development of grapheme pressure vessels to store "fuel", and a long MAGLEV track to boost the speed of a rocket, meant the NWAR could now launch and land it's "Shuttle" as one self-contained unit, without the need for an extra fuel tank or boosters. In spite of the fact that the gas ejected from a NEE engine was largely anniahlated into subatomic particles, and thus harmless, the fact the word "nuclear" was in it's name caused the UN to immediately declare it dangerous and illegal. The NWAR responded to this ruling by completely ignoring it. By 2041, the NWAR had made it's 100th manned space flight, and was under-the-counter launching communication satellites for other nations. The United States insisted on maintaining it's own space programme, bankrolled by the Jewish lobby (no longer the Israeli lobby, as Israel had been absorbed into the Caliphate and Jews, being a miniscule minority, were unable to exert much influence on that nation's ruling council). The Chemical launch rockets and satellites were built in Korea, though. For a few years, a low-key space war between armed, but unmanned, spy satellites was fought by the USA and NWAR. Eventually the US couldn't afford it any more, and the battles came to an end. In 2044, an upgraded NWAR Shuttle flew to the moon and back, all as one self-contained unit, with no extra rockets on the Earth end, or special landing modules on the other. Truly "routine" spaceflight had arrived. In 2051, the NWAR established Rommel Base, later Rommelstadt, the largest city on the moon. No other nation had even got an unmanned probe to Earth's satellite since before World War 3. The UN attempted to censure and sanction the NWAR for "tresspassing" on "the property of all the Earth" (all the Earth not including the NWAR, evidently). Unfortunately, they had already applied every possible sanction to the NWAR, so couldn't really do anything worse short of declaring war - and that hadn't gone so sell the first time. In 2064, The New Confederacy collapsed in a slave revolt. It had tried to invade Homonia, but this invasion was rebuffed and the Homonians bombarded Confederate cities with cruise missiles entirely at random. Not as the prelude to invasion or anything, literally just for fun. UN condemnation of this action was a mild finger-wag at best. The slaves, all living in the countryside, sacked the cities and soon established the Black ethnostate of New Egypt. New Egypt was a one-party state, with immigration permitted only by literally holding up a colour chart against arrivals. Non-Black people were permitted only in strictly designated areas, close to airports, and lighter-skinned Black citizens were not permitted to have children with each other. Whites were banned almost entirely (except for transfers at airports - and even then with a fee), under pain of death, legally administered by any citizen. The United Nations immediately offered New Egypt full diplomatic recognition and representation, and put together a generous interest-free IMF loan to aid rebuilding. In 2080, the NWAR made it's first mission to Mars, in three large ships, built in orbit. NWAR long-range ships have a football field-sized rotating cylinder, which provides those on board with gravity - a design copied by other factions when they finally reach space. A further modification of the NWAR Shuttle allowed a crew to land, explore and take off again. This mission set up Prometheus Base, later to be named Marsopolis, the capital city of Mars. Around the UN, the Media fiercely denounced the the NWAR mission, accusing them of faking the entire thing with CGI and models, a procession of Hollywood effects experts were wheeled out to explain "how it was done". A year later. similar ships from the NWAR reached Venus, but this time descended into the upper atmosphere and deployed large gas bags, becoming airships, floating in air that, while unbreathable, was at 1 bar of pressure and thus allowed humans to walk around outside with only breathing masks. Eventually the NWAR proved it had reached the other planets by detonating a series of extremely large "fireworks" in Martian orbit, with multiple live television and internet video feeds from telescopes on the Moon, various spacecraft and Mars itself all showing the same detonations from multiple angles. Minutes before this demonstration, all "clearnet" video and streaming websites banned every NWAR account, and many governments (following a lead established by the UK) passed emergency legislation that made viewing the NWAR "Mars proof" video a hate crime. Media experts again declared the video to be an "obvious, transparent fake", without showing a single frame of it to point out exactly what had led them to this conclusion. By 2118, the NWAR had successfully redirected several icy asteroids into Mars to create an ocean and thicker carbon dioxide atmosphere. A number of huge, fusion-powered engines were used to move large rocky asteroids into orbit, giving Mars five moons which extert tremendous tidal forces on the planet, kickstarting activity in the core and creating a strong magnetic field, securing the existence of the thick atmosphere. Tough, fast-growing plants like Japanese Knotweed and Kudzu were introduced to the planet, growing rapidly and creating a breathable atmosphere. This still look many years. In 2118, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the NWAR, the Martian Prime Minister took a few unassisted breaths of the atmosphere, though he was in visible distress. By this time, the UN had been forced to admit the NWAR were on mars, due to the fact anybody with a decent telescope could observe the changes. The Prime Minister was roundly mocked in worldwide media for the gasping sound he had made. The media of a world that had now passed through several generations without putting a single person in orbit. In 2121 the UN did finally make rapid strides to manned spaceflight, having finally got it's act togther. The first UN Moon base was built this year, and in 2030 the UN made a "feasability study" fly-by of Mars, using advanced new ion engines. In 2131 the invasive plants sown by the NWAR on Mars began to be exterminated in earnest, replaced by grasslands and food-producing crops. By now Mars had a breathable, though cold and still quite thin, atmosphere, the equivalent to living on a decent-sized mountain on Earth. By now there were two generations of true Martians, born on the planet. Many other people from the NWAR on Earth were moving there to farm or live. They no longer needed to live in airtight domes, but could build true cities with streets open to the sky. Masses of fertilizer were also bought to Mars on "stink barge" ships. Some of these were crewed by NWAR prisoners who had been convicted of minor crimes. They were released once they arrived to build a new life on Mars. In 2134 the UN made a second "test" fly-by of Mars, thier ship fitted with an oddly large number of cameras and telescopes, all of which were trained on the planet and not out at space. Apparently a planet with a large population of people living on it's surface and several permenent space stations orbiting it still needed surveying from orbit. The UN ship was met by an NWAR ship, which gave the crew some Mars-grown apples as a diplomatic gesture. The UN mission commanders forbade any of the crew to eat the apples, while the captain bit into one and said "what was that?" with his mouth full. His career quickly collapsed and he was later imprisoned on curiously ill-investigated charges of domestic violence. The rest of the apples were left to go mouldy for the 4 months it took the UN ship to return. When it did return UN scientists declared the apples "inedible" and predicted the starvation and collapse of the NWAR colony within a year. In 2140 the increasingly-crowded moon, with three UN cities and two NWAR ones (but these are by far the largest) gets it's third nation, in the form of Homonia. The UN is uneasily allied with Homonia for it's large homosexual population, but does not like it's free speech, lack of gun control, and insistence on allowing people to drive their own cars. The NWAR also uneasily befriends Homonia. The two nations find they have a fair bit in common, if you ignore little things like race and sexual orientation In 2143, the USS Brooker, the largest NWAR spacecraft to date, headed to Mars for another "feasibility study" fly-by. The ship was fitted with a new "ionic jet", developed in secret and more efficient, if not as powerful, as the NEE engine. The ship encountered an asteroid, which it could easily have avoided, claimed to be "in danger" from it, and blasted it with a 50-megaton warhead. The gunboat diplomacy was obvious, and the UN and NWAR made a forced-looking "agreement" at Hazel City, the neutral Homonian moon base. The UN was be granted a large island on Mars, on the proviso they don't land any weapons on the planet, and arm ships only for self-defence. The NWAR, for it's part, agreed to build "no future types" of armed spaceships for it's military. Then revealed it already had three types of armed spaceships, and that "no further types" doesn't mean they won't build more examples of the existing types. The UN, for it's part, immediately ignored it's own side of the bargain and began to secretly land and hide rifles, grenades, rocket launchers etc in it's Martain territory. Not out of any upset at the NWAR's weasel-wording, of course, they had absolutely no intention of honouring an agreement made with "Nazis" in the first place. Homonia also gained a small concession to an island on Mars, which it named Condell's Land - to the UN's horror. By 2153, The UN had enlarged it's island with land reclamation, to about two-thirds the size of India. Homonian go-betweens negotiated a more peaceful resolution, the UN stopped expanding it's island, and they built a bridge - literally - to NWAR territory, in a spirit of friendly cooperation. It was named George Washington Bridge, to the initial satisfaction of the NWAR. The UN immediately bragged that they "tricked" the NWAR into allowing them to name the bridge after George Washington Carver, a black scientist. The UN ambassador met an NWAR delegation halfway across. He was also black, and talked down to them like they were little children. Diplomatic relations worsened, and the bridge was closed until 2159. By 2166 there were now multiple generations of Martians. Most were NWAR, and raised with that nation's propaganda, but, well, the nation itself is a long way away, and many of them had never seen a non-white or Jewish person. Friendly diplomatic relations were once again established, by the establishment of an all-Mars motor racing championship, using Minis! These were built in the Homonian territory, with a heavy lead floorpan to balance out the Martian gravity. Each nation has teams that modify and race them. The UN insists on increasing their safety, and had generations of people who have only known self-driving cars, so does hilariously badly. Competition is keen between Homonia and the NWAR. Non-white Homonian drivers stayed in the NWAR territory during races there, and were politely cheered when they won races. The UN media reported on the NWAR Martian Prime Minister angrily "storming from the podium" when an Indian-descended Homonian driver won an important race. Anybody with a TV and eyes could see that he didn't, and heartily congratulated the driver. After this, reporting on the races abrutly ceased over the entire UN territory on Earth. Anybody who asked what happened to them, and about new results, on social media, suffered an entirely organic backlash of abuse and accusations of "flat-earthism", from commentors with minutes-old accounts. In 2172, the UN appeared to take a leaf out of Homonia's book. Professing a desire to get along with both other factions, they started to work on a neutral, open-to-all "way station" between Mars and Earth. This was positioned in an independent orbit, with engines allowing it to be relocated in the optimal position for travellers between the two planets to stop at and stretch their legs. The NWAR is extremely suspicious of this station, which is built entirely by the UN, under strangely restrictive secrecy. It has two large fusion reactors built into it. The UN insists this is for redundancy, but it seems strangely excessive for what is basically a big hotel. Work on the station is still ongoing in 2175...

Political System The NWAR has a National Socialist economic system, but it's political system is more akin to a "True Republic", based on that envisaged in the United States Constition. It has no seperate political parties as such, though there are "tendencies" within it's one party. These "tendencies" are primarily based on religion, the largest two being Christian Identity, The Old Beleivers Association (pagans) and National Socialists ('official' agonistics). Christian Identity is the largest tendency among the population at large, and is based on a "downright torturous" reading of scripture which apparently shows that Jesus was a White gentile, and thus his sacrifice transferred God's covenant to White people. The Old Beleivers association is for Pagans, and is dominated by those who beleive in the Nordic / Germanic rite, though presumably the gods of Greece, Rome and the Celts also make appearances depending on the origin of the beleiver in question. Lastly, the non-religious tend to default to a beleif in National Socialism as the sole driving force for the state. Everybody studies National Socialism in school, though, and a lot of the population support it's principles and belong to a religious tendency. Each county in the NWAR elects three representatives to parliament, two MP's and a "Member of The Opposition". The opposition, while still part of the same party, exists to pick holes in and criticise everything the government does. Because they are in the same party, these criticisms are usually based on actual merit, and not simply opposing things for the sake of petty point-scoring. Members of parliament are elected by citizens based on the class of citizenship they have earned. High School graduates (subject to passing certain tests), aged 18, receive Class C citizenship, which gives them one vote. Men are drafted into the armed forces at this age (and, from 16 to 18, every citizen is obliged to work as a member of the National Labour Service, doing menial work) and, upon completion of their term of service, are upgraded to Class B, which gives them two votes. Women are usually expected to be married by this time (and old-fashioned "introduction agencies" and arranged marriages are a booming business), and women classed as "homemakers" receive a "housewives' salary" from the government. Married couples may also apply for a "Life Loan" with which to buy a house (mortgages are nonexistent in the NWAR, as charging interest is seen as "Jewish" - when it was established, everybody was given the house they currently occupied for free). Women may upgrade to Class B citizenship by having a child, the first child automatically wipes out 25% of the outstanding "Life Loan", the second 20% and each one after that, 15%. Many couples, naturally, have enough children to reduce even the largest loan to the price of a decent second-hand car, and pay off the remainder within a few short years. Class A citizenship, with three votes, is acheived by significant service to the state, usually on the field of battle by men or by women having even more children. All NVA volunteers who could prove active service during the revolution attained Class A by default. Women can, and have, attained Class A citizenship by success in business (or even fighting in the military), too, though. There is no official obligation for them to advance themselves by the child-bearing route, though most do. NWAR propaganda places a great emphasis on White people being "outnumbered". Curiously, the NWAR also quietly encourages teenage pregancy, a 16-year old girl who gets knocked up at her high school prom is excused from the National Labour Service for the duration of the pregnancy and the first three years of her child's life. While it seems like they are "getting out of" their national service, having a healthy child while the mother is also young and active is considered the greatest possible service to the nation that anyone can offer.

Transport While the NWAR makes it's own cars, trucks and other vehicles, powered by electricity, methane or ethanol engines, it places a great emphasis on the use of public transport and cycling - all the walking or pedalling is a lot more healthy. As in Homonia, cars are seen as something for "fun". Unlike Homonia, The NWAR produces sleek, modern, silent cars with all the toys and even self-driving, though this is acheived on a per-car basis and is not controlled centrally. In fact, the NWAR doesn't even have driving licenses! These are seen as an example of intrusive government overreach, and driving instruction is given by parents, or small schools, which let a driver loose on the road whenever the instructor deems them ready. It's not unusual to see 12-year old Junior High students rolling up in an (Odins raven name here)! For a few days, anyway, until they realise how annoying it is to find a parking space.

Society The NWAR adheres extremely strictly to it's status as an ethnostate for all White people. Quite apart from the police, absolutely any NWAR citizen can shoot and kill a non-White person they see within the republic's borders, with no legal repercussions whatsoever. However, as the NWAR's film and TV companies produce a constant stream of racist propaganda, a non-White person seen on the streets of the NWAR is likely to be an actor in heavy makeup. For this reason, people do tend to call in the police, who can ask questions first, and shoot later. Also very few non-Whites ever visit the NWAR, for obvious reasons. NWAR territories on the Moon and Mars have, since the establishment of UN and Homonian colonies on those worlds, have been slightly more lax with the rule and allow non-Whites to visit as tourists or for business purposes. None of them are allowed to settle, though, and any NWAR citizen who enters a homosexual or interracial relationship is effectively exiled in the foreign colony thier partner comes from... if another NWAR citizen doesn't decide to "purify" them with hot lead, anyway. The scarcity of food on offworld colonies means a lot of illicit, under-the-counter trading of food and other supplies goes on. The UN maintains a hard stance against this "unauthorised contact", the NWAR government takes a more pragmatic approach but there are rumblings about the number of non-Whites crossing the borders, if only temporarily... and Homonia just doesn't give a crap. In most nations that practice either a far-left or far-right political system, ordinary life and politics are pretty much inseperable. This holds true in the NWAR, where schooling is heavy on politics, and later in life work and having babies is considered a service to the state. As soon as children begin school, they begin their course in History and Moral Philosophy. High School graduates must pass the final exam in this subject to earn their class C citizenship and the right to vote. The content of the course is primarily concerned with the history of Western civilisation and White people, National Socialism as a worldview, Nazi Germany and the NWAR. Naturally, the course focuses heavily on the alleged manipulation of the world and genocide of White people perpetrated by the Jewish people. It also contains units that heavily criticise both Communism and Capitalism, once again laying the blame for all of their flaws and failiures at the feet of the Jews. Students attain class C citizenship by passing tests showing that they understand this course. To it's credit, the NWAR doesn't necessarily require them to agree with it, just understand it. Evangelical Christians who beleive that Jewish people are God's chosen and that mass Jewish immigration to Israel (or, at least, the land in the Caliphate that used to be Israel) will bring about the Rapture remain a small minority in the NWAR, though they don't tend to shout this Jewish praise from the rooftops. High School leavers in the NWAR go straight into the National Labour Service or NLS. Every NWAR child must complete a term in this service, even children of the president himself. Females can be exempted from hard labour through pregnancy, but will still end up pecking away at a typewriter somewhere in an office, at least part-time. NLS assignments are semi-flexible, children are usually placed close to home, though might not be, and usually live in barracks-type accomodation or even camp out during their time in it. Common NLS assignments include picking food manually in fields, cleaning the roads, digging ditches etc. "Cushier" assignments might involve bell-boy work in hotels or waiting tables at resturants... but they are assigned randomly and rotated. Later on some lucky NLS members even get to go into space to haul luggage between interplanetary liners and landing pods. Though once again being the child of the president is no gaurantee you'll get the best assignments such as these. The NLS exists partly because "the devil makes work for idle hands", the idle hands of 16 to 18 year olds being considered particularly devilish, and partly because the NWAR prohibits immigration from poor "third world" countries, whose people traditionally took on such jobs in the United States.

Immigration Being a white ethnostate, immigration in the NWAR is very obviously "two speed". White people showing up at the border are given a hearty "welcome home!", and arrangements are made to provide them with housing, jobs and a start in their new life. Anybody else is met with gunfire. The NWAR, from the time of the creation of the ruling party (long before the creation of the country), invites all white people, the world over, to it's territory. Once the NWAR was established, many nations immediately attempted to prevent their white residents from making the "mistake" of leaving their "free and democratic" countries for a "fascist dictatorship". Anybody even looking into immigration on the internet is given lengthy prison sentences, "for their own protection". Maybe some torture, too. This meant, for the first few years of the NWAR's existence, a perilous trek to smuggle oneself into the new country, perhaps under fire from US armed forces. After Operation Strikeout, this relaxed a fair bit, as the USA simply couldn't afford to guard the whole border. People from other nations still have a difficult time getting to the NWAR, with trips close to the nation's borders prevented. They often have to land in eastern Canada or the USA, and make a long, dangerous overland trek.
